FORTS records new volume record
Russian Exchange, RTS Forts set a new volume high on 17 October, as the exchange recorded trades worth a total of R50.65bn ($2bn). The new record surpasses the previous high of R49.7bn set 13 September.
Roman Goryunov chief executive officer of RTS said that he believed the new record is the result of new entrants in the markets drawn to the market by a growing understanding of the importance of derivatives. We have seen market volumes growing fast recently. In the last few months records have been beaten several times. We believe that this figure, US$2bn, will be the average value of daily trading volume in the near future on Forts, he said.
The exchange also recorded a new a single trading day volume record its RTS Index. Volume reached 266,315 contracts, worth R28.7bn, surpassing the previous record set 11 October which totalled R28.5bn
