Euronext jump on emissions bandwagon
NYSE Euronext is the latest exchange to delve into emissions trading by listing CO2 allowances and credits. The exchange will begin trading spot contracts but will later develop futures, the exchange said.
The plans follow recent announcements by Eurex that it will enter commodities via emissions in its tie up with European Energy Exchange and Intercontinental Exchange, which entered an agreement with European Climate Exchange to list emission contracts earlier in the year.
Euronexts new products will launch early next year with France-based economic service, Caisse des Dépôts, as the main shareholder of the project.
