Investment consultancy Redington has hired Robin Classens as a managing director.

His appointment is expected to strengthen Redington’s consultancy team as the firm widens its service offering to further meet the needs of the pensions and savings industry.

“I have known Robin for over 10 years and I am very much looking forward to working with him again,” said David Bennett, head of investment consulting.

“I'm sure our clients will benefit from his hands-on experience working with the trustees of the Invensys Pension Scheme, as well as advising corporations and their schemes on all aspects of pension strategy.”

Classens was most recently chief financial officer of BBOXX, a start-up which designs and manufactures “plug and play” solar-based electric systems.

Before this he was CEO and chief investment officer of Invensys Pension Scheme, which has a £4.5bn ($7.6bn) portfolio. Classens’ responsibilities included liability management, asset management and corporate strategy, as well as overseeing the fund’s trustee board and governance & audit committee and chairing its asset and liability management committee.
